COLT SAA FOR SALE SERIAL NUMBER
In July of 1882, the body of Johnny Ringo was found near Turkey Creek, with a hole from his temple through the back of his head, this colt, serial number 222, in his hand, his feet wrapped in cloth torn from his undershirt. The Earp family suspected him of taking part in both the attempted assassination of Virgil Earp and the murder of their brother Morgan. He was associated with the Cochise County Cowboys alongside the Clanton family and the McLaury brothers, and it's speculated that he missed the incident at the OK Corral only because he was visiting family in California. He had journeyed overland with his family in 1864, and his father had accidentally shot himself on the journey (see lot 214, for his mother's diary of the trip).
Johnny Ringo famously arrived in Tombstone in 1879, reportedly shooting Louis Hancock, who refused to drink whiskey with him, expressing a preference for beer.
